
Joy has traveled and competed in numerous dance competitions in New York, Miami, and Houston. She has won numerous dance title’s; including, ones at the International Hustle and Salsa Competition, Hustle USA, and New York’s Dance Sport. She has performed locally in New Orleans, as the Arabian Princess, in Ballet Hysell’s Nutcracker. She has studied dance with some of the top instructors in the field, including Harvey Hysell, Maria Torres, Arte Phillips, Angel and Debbie Figueroa, and David Appel.
She currently teaches ballroom dance lessons in Salsa, Rumba, Cha-cha, Swing, Hustle, and Fox Trot. Private lessons are available for singles, couples, or small groups. She teaches weekly group Salsa lessons at La Thai restaurant in uptown New Orleans. In addition, she teaches brides and grooms, dance lessons in preparation for the performance of their “First Dance” at their wedding.
Her experience as an astute student, dedicated teacher, and fierce competitor, brings not only a methodical understanding of the technical aspects of the dance, but also a keen sense of the subtle complexities and unique styling that make for a powerful presentation of the dance.
